What do we recommend?

Who remembers the days when the glossies were full of home made, so-natural-they-were-edible beauty remedies?

I'm sure I am showing my age but I remember reading Cosmopolitan as a teenager and feeling privy to some genuine insider info, such as discovering Jerry Hall's top hair tip: once a week she nourished her by hair by sleeping with a towel wrapped around her head after immersing her locks in olive oil.

This, at the time, seemed normal, if a little decadent to me, as olive oil was too posh a culinary item to be dousing so liberally in the name of beauty.

Growing up with this (and the idea that using teabags and cucumbers to wake up the eyes or moisturising facials made from avocado and egg) was seen as inspirational because in the eighties, that is exactly what the rich, famous and beautiful women were endorsing - despite being perfectly able to afford a fancy pot of skin cream.

I am now such a fan of the natural beauty product. I love the smell and feel of naturally derived ingredients and cannot bear eye-wateringly synthetic substances that so often come uninvited within the ingredients of skincare.

In the fashion and film world, natural beauty supplies have always been de rigeur. Models and actresses who have a lot of make-up going on and off their face are more likely to have sensitive skin. Chemicals and perfumes only exacerbate this problem so many make-up artists carry the very simplest of moisturisers, cleansers and removers in their kits.

Luckily, you needn't head for the kitchen any longer if you want to get your natural beauty fix. Companies like Tzerah or POMEGA5 have led the way for a number of cool, ethical, luxury brands.

The active ingredients are 100% organic and there are no petrochemicals, silicones or chemical preservatives found in almost all other mid to top range products. One of the 'star' products is the Omega5 Healign cream proving that natural is effective.

Another brand that will keep my celebrity and model subjects happy is the Tzerah line that was featured at the Golden Globes.

This brand seems to tick the most ethical boxes so far and I am very impressed. On the one hand you have the packaging, which is shipped, rather than flown and is biodegradable enough to chuck on the compost heap without throwing away design.

Natural brqnds suh as POMEGAS are dismantling old notions of natural skincare as we speak and prove that there is potentially as wide an appeal for natural skincare as there is for additive free, natural food- and for the same reasons and what is best for us, is usually best for the environment.

Does this mean we have to sacrifice the technological advancements in skincare? Not any more for although the ingredients are free of all the unnecessary additives, they still use the same chemists of the big, technology led companies, but use the science to incorporate natural, rather than chemical advancements like using pre and probiotics in the fight against skin damage from free radicals.

Naturally based skincare such as Tzerah no longer has to include the topical use of food or beverages or involve ridding yourself of any skincare luxury at all.

It does, however, include some additive-free benefits for your skin that just so happen to raise the ethical bar and provide an example for all businesses at the same time.

Your skin has the ability to heal, renew and protect itself with the proper care. The causes of skin imperfections include hormonal changes, reduction in collagen production, free-radical damage, poor nutrition, solar radiation and pollution. If you have problem skin, choose products that optimize your skin's ability to repair itself.

Broken Capillaries: Dry, delicate or mature skin that is thin and fragile is most susceptible to broken capillaries. When blood no longer pumps through the tiny capillaries and the capillary walls weaken, they lose their elasticity, collapse and become visible on the surface. Abrasive cleansers and facial scrubs, alcohol, caffeine, certain drugs, harsh cosmetics, forceful massage, cold weather, extreme winds, overexposure to the sun and spicy foods can all be triggers. Protecting your skin in cold or windy weather can help prevent broken capillaries. Bioflavonoid supplements may reduce redness and strengthen capillaries. Use gentle products that contain aloe and essential oils of lavender and chamomile to help soothe capillaries.

Age Spots: Blotches of pigmentation may result from perfumes, excessive sun exposure or the interaction of medications (such as birth control pills) and sun exposure. In responses, your skin has tried to protect itself by producing an overabundance of melanin -- the pigmented cells in your skin. The most important thing you can do to prevent new age spots is to wear sunscreen when exposed to sunlight.

You can repair your skin with products containing antioxidants, such as vitamin C, that have been shown to clarify skin and help to reverse dye effects of sun damage. Licorice extract is nature's most subtle and yet effective skin lightener. It has depigmenting effects and inhibits melanin synthesis.

Uneven Skin: Discoloration can also be the result of inflammation caused by acne, harsh chemicals or trauma. Uneven skin is typically from poor skin care and large pore size. Other causes are seborrhea dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and its cousin, perioral dermatitis. For uneven skin, my most popular treatment is self-heating microdermabrasion crystals that are made with micronized bamboo. Again, vitamin C comes to the rescue with its ability to even out skin tone and boost collagen production, reduce skin damage caused by free radicals and improve skin texture.

Rosacea: Although the cause of the disorder is unknown, it is clear that rosacea is aggravated by extremes of temperature, sunlight, alcohol, hot drinks, spicy foods and emotional stress. They cause the already congested and weakened blood vessels to dilate even further and the skin's sensitive surface to become irritated and inflamed. People with naturally thin skin may also be more prone to the condition.

Rosacea is typically found in light-skinned patients and may be exacerbated by estrogens or changes in hormones. Tartar control toothpaste can also provoke it. For rosacea-prone skin skin-care products are recommended that contain green tea extract, which has a calming effect. For rosacea and broken capillaries you need avoid products that contain alcohol, a lot of fragrance or antiaging ingredients, such as high concentrations of vitamin C or glycolic acid. Also chemical-free sun protection is recommended.

Acne: Acne is typically caused by the interaction of bacteria, hormones and sebum (oil from the hair follicle). A conscientious skin-care regime can combat some causes. Use a weekly facial scrub followed by a facial mask. Spot-treating blemishes with a formulation of bacteria-fighting essential oils such as tea tree, neroli or lemon oil can help them heal faste.

Use cleansers and topical treatments designed for acne-prone skin and avoid anything, including sunscreens, that are not explicitly non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic. Supplementing with B vitamins and zinc may also help. Green tea and lavender have both been shown to have antibacterial properties when used topically.

A paper published in the latest issue of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science points to the fact that scented skin care products can help improve the mood of menopausal women. The study also found that the use of familiar skin care products were more likely to lighten the mood of users. The study concluded that perfumed skin care products worked best on women whose daily life was nearly devoid of ‘sensory pleasure’.

This phenomenon has given rise to what is being called the “senso-cosmetic” trend. This is reaction is believed to play a part in brand loyalty. According to Cosmeticdesign-europe.com, “senso-cosmetics” was hailed at the recently held HBA Technical Conference in New York as “a fast developing area of research.”

Many people feel that their title="acne" href="http://www.skinmed.co.uk" >acne< is overly

embarrassing and
unmanageable. I have read story after story of heartache, especially
from teens that endure heartless bullying from schoolmates. There are
so many different remedies and medications. What most people fail to
realise is that each individual has a different biological makeup and
what works for one person may not work for everyone. In some cases
certain acne treatment can adversely affect already irritated skin.
This further causes unnecessary embarrassment and frustration to an
already uncomfortable situation.
Propaganda fuels misconceptions about different so-called remedies and
even causes. The idea that chocolate and oily food causes acne. When in
truth, makeup, unhealthy skin and even perspiration can cause acne.
All of these factors affect the skin. But even your skin makeup can
affect your skin and create back acne, scalp acne, large assesses or
ingrown hair. There is an acne questionnaire done by a company called
Skinmed that will help to diagnose acne problems through a series of
questions, and then it n recommends the best acne treatment for each
individual.
Teen acne is typically the most difficult to diagnose because of
hormonal considerations, but there is a special area meant just for
teen acne that has a completely different set of rules when running the
formula that determines the best medications or treatments. In some
cases simple changes in hygiene and daily washing is all that it takes.
The site also has a title "free acne/rosacea cream" title="acne"

href="http://www.skinmed.co.uk" >free acne treatment/a that is made up
of a three step process. The primary reason most teens, especially boys
tend to have more problems with chronic acne is because of a lack of
simply washing their face regularly. So this treatment is free is a way
to create a healthy daily routine, while gently healing the skin to
prevent acne scarring brought on as a result of squeezing the sores.
Once daily cleaning is practices, and hormonal issues are taken into
consideration, a proper treatment regiment can be highly affective.
At the end of the day most acne, even teen acne , can be eliminated
quickly and permanently with the right motivation. After all, we all
want to be beautiful don’t we?
